Hello, young persons of the Arlington Diocese! Welcome to the website for the Office of Youth Ministry. This site is specifically designed so that young people may become more deeply involved with their parish and diocesan communities. This new school year brings with it many opportunities for you to grow in your faith and to share that faith with others. Pope John Paul II addressed youth at World Youth Day in 1996 saying: “Dear young people, make your generous and responsible contribution to the constant building up of the Church as a family, a place of dialogue and mutual acceptance, a space of peace, mercy and pardon.”

Likewise I say to you: “Come!” There is no one else but you who can bring your gifts to the greater community of the Church. Give back to Christ and to His Body what he has given you – your energy, your talents, your insights, your interests—and He will multiply them. Ask Him to help you find concrete expressions for your gifts. What better place to begin than with your fellow young people in your home diocese? Dedicate to Him the particular flame of your youth and He will enkindle the fire of His love in you. Take a hold of your faith through the sacraments, particularly in the Eucharist where the Lord Jesus comes and nourishes us and communes with us in a truly intimate and unique manner.

Having just returned from a pilgrimage to Rome, I am rejuvenated for my continued service in the constant building up of the Church. This is a task to which I also invite you. Look for ways to be involved: first in daily prayer; and then, guided by prayer, determine how the Church most needs you. The Office of Youth Ministry is available to guide and direct you to resources and activities. The staff of this office invite you to explore their webpage and to contact them. Know that you remain in the forefront of my mind and that it would be a joy to meet each and every one of you.

Please continue to pray for the Church, and know that I pray each day for you, the young Church of the Arlington Diocese.

¡Hola, jóvenes de la Diócesis de Arlington! Bienvenidos a la página web de la Oficina del Ministerio para la Juventud. Esta página está diseñada específicamente para que los jóvenes puedan participar más con sus comunidades en las parróquias y la Diócesis. El nuevo año escolar les ofrece muchas oportunidades para profundizar su fé y compartirla con otras personas. El Papa Juan Pablo II dirigió la palabra a la Jornada Mundial de La Juventud de 1996 diciendo “Queridos jóvenes, hagan su contribución generosa y responsable a la construcción constante de La Iglesia como familia; como lugar de diálogo y aceptación mútua; como un sitio de paz, misericordia y perdón.”

De igual manera, les invito que “¡Vengan!” Nadie más que ustedes que pueden ofrecer sus dones a la gran comunidad de la Iglesia. Den a Cristo y su Cuerpo lo que él les ha dado a ustedes—su energía, sus talentos, sus intuiciones, sus intereses—y él les multiplicará. Pidan a Dios que les ayude a encontrar manifestaciones concretas para sus dones. ¿Dónde más empezar que en su propia Diócesis con sus compañeros jóvenes? Dediquen a Cristo la llama ardiente de su juventud, y él encenderá en ustedes el fuego de su amor. Afirmen su fé con los sacramentos, especialmente en la eucaristía, donde Jesucristo nos llega, nos nutre, y esté con nosotros en una manera íntima y única.

Acabo de volver de una peregrinación a Roma, la cual me rejuveneció para continuar mi servicio en la constante constucción de la Iglesia.. Les invito que se unan a esta tarea conmigo. Busquen formas de participar: primero en la oración diaria; luego, guiados por la oración, determinen cómo les necesita la Iglesia. La Oficina del Ministerio de la Juventud está para guiarlos y dirigirlos a los recursos y las actividades apropriados. Los funcionarios de esta oficina les invitan a explorar la página web y estar en contacto con ellos. Sepan que los pienso mucho y que sería un gusto para mí conocer a cada uno de ustedes.
