Band:

Just about anything that has a melody I can hum or sing along with...Newest favorite: Great Big Sea

Biking, hiking, and gardening, especially with friends, if I manage to get outside. Hanging out with friends, reading books and listening to music inside (current favorite books: the Early Church Fathers and Pope John Paul II)

Saint:

St. Therese de Lisieux (the Little Flower), my confirmation patron, for showing us that all are called to be saints in our own little hidden ways, even if not in big ways. St. Thomas More and St. Lawrence, because I love guys with a great sense of humor who stick up for the truth even when the King of England or the Roman Emperor doesn't want to hear it!

Homer's LLiad, Dante's Divina Commedia, J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, C.S. Lewis' Till We Have Faces and The Great Divorce. (Among others - I was a literature major in college!)

Why I am a Youth Minister

Because God wants me to be here, is the only way to describe it! I was a literature major in college, but upon graduating, I knew that I had above anything else was a love for God and His Holy Church. I needed to share that with others who didn't have it.
For many people, their life and their Catholic faith doesn't make sense. I like things that make sense, and have discovered through praying, studying and reading, that our Catholic faith is the only thing that makes sense and is the only thing that can help our lives to make sense - we can only know what we are for and act in a way that will bring us to happiness if we know and are in union with the Person who made us and the world we live in and keeps it all together!
I love the liturgy and our Lord's presence in the Eucharist above other things, and I hope to help people to make sense out of life and come to know the One who can make them happy, one person at a time, through my ministry.
I was a Campus missionary serving university students at a state university last year, and am excited to be working with high school teens this year!

About Me

I grew up in northwest Ohio, the oldest of a home schooling family of seven. I went to public school through second grade. My mom started home schooling my brother and I in the third grade and began to learn to faith as she taught it to us. Seeing our family change from a go-to-Mass-on-Sunday-but-not-much-else family to one which prayed together and put their faith into practice, I began to realize the importance and beauty of the Catholic Faith! I devoured religion books throughout high school and decided to go to a Catholic college instead of studying biology...my other love. I wanted to know more about God, the church, Mary, the Saints and Angels....there was so much to learn!
I attended Ave Maria College in Ypsilanti, Michigan taking plenty of Theology and Philosophy classes and graduated in 2005 with a major in Liturature and minor in Classics (Latin and Greek).
After college, I spent a year doing volunteer work, working in retail and praying in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. This past year, I was a Campus Missionary for Bowing Green State University in Ohio and served as the Coordinator of Religious Education for the small parish, serving the university, St. Thomas More. This summer, following God's prompting, I began a Master of Arts in Theology from Christendom College's Notre Dame Graduate School. I moved into the Northern Virginia area and am very happy to be here at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More.
