Why I am a Youth Minister
|
| |
When I first moved to Virginia in the summer of 2003, I was looking for opportunities to use my musical abilities to serve the Church. I volunteered to help with music for a Youth 2000 retreat in the spring of 2004, which introduced me to the youth minister at St. Mary of Sorrows. He invited me to start playing piano for their youth Masses, and it wasn't long before I started helping out with the weekly youth programs. Ever since then, God has continued to pull me deeper and deeper into youth ministry--as a core team member, CLC moderator, retreat director, music leader, and full-time employee. It has been amazing to see how Christ can somehow use me to impact the young people I encounter. It is also such a blessing to witness how Christ can transform young hearts and fill them with a desire to do His will.

About Me
|
| |
I was born in Pullman, Washington, and the first eight years of my life were spent in Moscow, Idaho, where I fell in love with mountains. I was pretty upset when my family moved to Iowa where there was... corn. Lots of corn. And that's about it. Except for maybe a few pigs, horses, cows, etc. But eventually, I learned to see the beauty in the plains--the ability to see straight to the horizon.
After Iowa, I moved to Ohio where I attended the Franciscan University of Steubenville. I majored in English and minored in Theology. I thought Ohio was "out east," but after graduation, I really moved "out east" to Virginia. My first job was with the Arlington Catholic Herald as a staff writer/photographer, but now I'm happy to be in full time youth ministry!!
I'm the oldest of five children, and I have one nephew and one goddaughter. I'm afraid of mice, purple is my favorite color, and I often sing when I'm driving alone in the car.
