History/Resume

Active in youth ministry since:

As a volunteer I guess I started in peer ministry in 1994 but as a youth minister since August, 2005

In this current position since:

August, 2005

Job description includes:

Jr. High Youth Group, High school Youth Group, 7th grade boys religious education teacher

Current Program:

High School Youth Group : We are having tremendous growth in our high school program.  The format is to have the youth leaders plan and lead the youth nights.   The weekly meetings (Youth Nights) on Sunday evenings, 6-8pm, immediately follow the 5 pm Mass.   We have parent teams that bring in dinner. After dinner, we have a formation talk and discussion on a topic that the leadership team chooses using skits, games, or a guest speaker.
[For those high school students that have not received confirmation that would like to, they meet with a Catechist during this time to prepare.  Following the formation topic, the youth will lead games and activities for the entire youth group.  Each month there will be at least one special activity outside of Youth Nights (Youth Rally, Lock-Ins, Apple-Picking Picnic, Twilight Retreat, Living Stations of the Cross, etc).  The Youth Group also participates in Diocesan Work Camp and World Youth Day Pilgrimages.

Jr. High School Youth Group : This Program is for 6-8th graders. This program is having even more tremendous growth the high school. We now have a wonderful coodinator specifically for this group! Anna Sproull was involved in our youth group many years ago and is now active in the Campus Ministry program at George Mason University. The Program consists of two gatherings a month.  We usually have lots of games, food, icebreakers, activities pertaining to a faith topic and then more games!

Why I am a Youth Minister

I am a youth minister because this is where God has put me at this time in my life.  St. John Bosco says, “That they are young is reason enough for me to love them.”  I stick by this motto. Also, John Paul II and his dedication to the young church of today was inspiring. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for youth ministers.  I love youth, they keep me young!  The pay isn’t great and they hours are long and hard but the job gratification is priceless.

About Me

I am young, good looking, and athletic.  I like long walks in the park and under the stars.  HAHA!  OK seriously, I am a graduate at George Mason University with a degree in biology.  I am candidate with the Youth Apostles based out of McLean, VA and am in the process of becoming a full member of the community. This community has played a pivotal role in developing me into the man of God that I am. My hobbies include reading, politics, bird watching, and hanging out with friends.  I am in love with Jesus Christ and have been for quite some time! While doing ministry at "final four" school George Mason, I met a fantastic, beautiful woman named Caryn and we were married in October 2006. All the rest, you are just going to have to come to St. Leo’s and meet me!!!
